Palestine Regional Medical Center Adds da Vinci Robotic Surgical System

Leading-edge robotic system expands surgical options while reducing risks

Palestine Regional Medical Center is proud to be the home of a new da Vinci 5 surgical robot, bringing the most advanced technology available for robotic-assisted surgeries to our community.

“At Palestine Regional, we are committed to providing our patients with innovative, advanced treatment options that meet their needs right here in our community,” said Tim O’Neal, interim CEO. “Whether through robotic-assisted technology or other minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques, we believe in offering high-quality, compassionate care. Investing in the da Vinci Xi is another important step toward enhancing the surgical capabilities at PRMC because it gives our patients and their families a world-class option that’s local.”

Robotic-assisted surgery is a less invasive technique than what is referred to as “open” surgery. With the robot, the incisions made in a patient’s body by a surgeon are much smaller than those made during open surgery and is, therefore, considered “minimally invasive.” Studies have shown the following benefits in comparison to open surgery:

  • A shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss
  • Fewer complications
  • Less need for narcotic pain medicine
  • A faster recovery
  • Smaller incisions associated with minimal scarring

Palestine Regional Medical Center will have multiple surgeons performing robotic-assisted surgery, spanning both general surgery and obstetrics/gynecology specialties.
